Funky Chair Land
I love chairs, I can’t help myself, I can’t stop collecting them, my house is full of chairs, everywhere you look there’s a chair. Bums love to visit my house; the choice of seating is endless. It is Funky chair land.
My collection just happened, it wasn’t intentional, I just kept finding or buying cool chairs, people kept giving them to me; it was fate. I’ve got old ladderback chairs, nursing chairs, rocking chairs, funky office chairs, Victorian & Edwardian , antique, vintage and retro, old swival ones crafted from different hardwoods, modern ones, pub ones, sewing chairs, 50’s chairs and stools and 40’s leather, the list is endless but I have to stop before I realise there’s something I haven’t got and immediately go out and buy more.
It seemed a natural progression for me and my partner (who also harbours a secret desire for chairs) to start a business that centres on them. We started to refurbish chairs as a hobby, recovering them in lush or funky fabrics, fixing what needed to be fixed, painting or reconditioning them.
We eventually turned our attention to the humble and boring office chair in all its moulded plastic glory. We all use them or have used them at some point in time and most offices are filled with them like armies of brown (or whatever colour) bum loving soldiers. Nearly always dull and uniformed in some terribly functional fabric. We thought that they needed cheering up and embarked on our journey to funky office chair land.
Whilst being fabulous for bespoke one-offs and home offices we thought this idea was best aimed at other businesses as a way of cheering up the workplace whilst helping the planet by rescuing chairs before they get sent to landfills. It helps businesses be greener and gives us all a sense of doing something that helps the environment. Offices could also get us to pick up their chairs on a Friday and have them delivered on a Monday fully refurbished.
We source the fabric from all over the place (but never too far), mostly concentrating on fun and funky prints, printed materials with eye catching designs that would suit and lend with the usual black plastic. We have a rolling stock of material so you can always have something different every year if you like. It always has to be fire-proofed so we ensure that they are as safe as possible.
We fully recondition the chairs if need be, making them good for another round! Where else can you get office chairs that look this good? You can have a totally unique office chair. This is a fabulous alternative to buying new. Buying new is so old fashioned.
